Lot 148 bay filly Snitzel – Carry On Alice (Captain Al) $460,000 (draft: Arrowfield Stud)

This one brings serious star power on both sides of the page. By the late, great Snitzel and out of a five-time Group One winning Champion Sprinter, this filly is speed royalty with global credentials. She has presence, power and polish — the type that makes you stop in your tracks — and with proven sale-topping siblings already on the board, she’s a filly built for both the racetrack and long-term value.

The filly is by four-time Champion Sire in Australia, and four-time Champion Two-Year-Old Sire Snitzel, regarded as a breed shaping stallion, like his sire Redoute’s Choice and grandsire Danehill.

Snitzel stood at Arrowfield Stud for $247,500 + GST before passing in 2025, thus making his progeny rare commodities.

Te Akau principal David Ellis CNZM has proven to be a great judge of yearlings by Snitzel, when buying Group One winning Champion Two-Year-Old Sword Of State, now an exciting young sire at Cambridge Stud, unbeaten Group One winning two-year-old Return To Conquer, along with recent dual winner King’s English.

Snitzel progeny have recorded over 300 stakes wins, including 33 Group One wins, and his two-year-old fillies have won the Golden Slipper (Gr. 1, 1200m) three times.

The filly is out of Carry On Alice, Champion Sprinter in South Africa, winner of 11 races, including five Group One.

As a broodmare, Carry On Alice has left two winners, and last year her Autumn Sun filly made $900,000 at the corresponding Magic Millions Sale in 2025.

Carry On Alice also produced a Snitzel colt that sold for $1.1m at the Inglis Easter Yearling Sale.

“We’ve got a particular interest in securing these fillies by Snitzel, who passed away last year, and when able to secure them out of proven mares the quality of Carry On Alice it adds enormously to their residual value,” said David Ellis.

“She’s an incredibly good-looking filly, from a two-year-old family, and an internationally proven dam line.

“Again, there is a lot of Snitzel in her makeup, plenty of natural strength and muscle, and a lot of class and quality.”
