Lot 493 bay colt Snitzel – Loving Gaby (I Am Invincible) $800,000 (draft: Vinery Stud) 

NOTE: this colt is one of two colts comprising our Te Akau 2026 Magic Colt Partnership - a share must also be purchased in Lot 603 the Snitzel/Never Listen colt - not in the colts individually.  

The colt is by four-time Champion Sire in Australia, and four-time Champion Two-Year-Old Sire Snitzel, regarded as a breed shaping stallion, like his sire Redoute’s Choice and grandsire Danehill.

Snitzel stood at Arrowfield Stud for $247,500 + GST before passing in 2025, thus making his progeny rare commodities.

Te Akau principal David Ellis CNZM has proven to be a great judge of yearlings by Snitzel, when buying Group One winning Champion Two-Year-Old Sword Of State, now an exciting young sire at Cambridge Stud, unbeaten Group One winning two-year-old Return To Conquer, along with recent dual winner King’s English.

Snitzel progeny have recorded over 300 stakes wins, including 33 Group One wins, and his two-year-old fillies have won the Golden Slipper (Gr. 1, 1200m) three times, while his highest priced yearling colt made $2.8m.

The colt is out of exceptional Australian mare and dual Group One winner Loving Gaby, Australian Champion 3YO, who scored in the William Reid Stakes (Gr. 1, 1200m) and Manikato Stakes (Gr. 1, 1200m), and placed in five Group One races.

A $500,000 yearling herself, Loving Gaby is by the triple Champion Sire in Australia, I Am Invincible (Invincible Spirit), whose best performer, Imperatriz, whom David Ellis purchased at the Gold Coast Sale in 2020, won 10 Group One races including the William Reid Stakes (Gr. 1, 1200m) (twice), and Manikato Stakes (Gr. 1, 1200m).

I Am Invincible is proving a dominant force as a broodmare sire and his mares are becoming increasingly valuable, evidenced by Imperatriz setting a record when sold after retiring for $6.6 million.

While this colt is her third foal, the first foal out of Loving Gaby, Just Like Gaby (Pierata), has recorded three wins to 1200 metres.

Loving Gaby is out of the multiple Group placed and dual winner Maastricht (Mastercraftsman), who is a half-sister to Group One Goodwood Handicap winner and dual Group Three winner Velocitea (Volksraad), and Listed winner Weaponry (Declaration of War).

Ellis purchased Weaponry as a yearling at Karaka, and a good, strong, horse, he won five races including the Southland Guineas (Gr. 1, 1600m).

“We know this family, have bought successfully from it, and it’s an honour to buy a colt by this Champion Sire (Snitzel) and incredible mare (Loving Gaby),” said David Ellis.

“He’s the best colt in the sale by our estimations, looks a sharp two-year-old type, and the mare has already produced a really talented first foal (Just Like Gaby) with three terrific wins.

“He’s got a stallion’s pedigree, is an incredible specimen, very much in the mould of Snitzel, and we’re thrilled to be able to secure him.”

The colt has a bloodline cross to legendary stallion Danehill and a cross to brilliant Australian sprinter and Champion 2YO Canny Lad (Bletchingly).
