Description

Lot 270 chestnut filly In The Congo – Anaween (More Than Ready) $400,000 (draft: Little Avondale Stud)

Standing at Newgate Farm, first season sire In The Congo was a Group One winner in the Golden Rose (Gr. 1, 1400m), and son of four-time Champion Sire and sire of sires Snitzel (Redoute’s Choice).

In The Congo performed against the best two and three-year-old sprinters in Australia, and in addition to his Group One win he was Group One placed, won at Group Three level, and runner-up in two Group Two races.

In The Congo was strongly patronized by breeders and his first crop yearlings have sold to $625,000 and been solid around the $200k – $300k mark at the Gold Coast Yearling Sale.

The dam of In The Congo, Via Africa was Champion Sprinter in South Africa, winning 10 races, including three at Group One level.

Via Africa is by Var (Forest Wildcat), a Joint Champion Male Sprinter in Europe, and sire of 61 stakes winners.

The filly is out of Anaween (More Than Ready), and therefore a half-sister to talented winning stable-mate Kiwi Raider (Per Incanto). Trained by Mark Walker in the Te Akau stable in Melbourne, Kiwi Raider was co-bought by David Ellis at Karaka, and when winning she became the fourth individual winner out of Anaween, whose progeny have won 13 races from 1017m – 2400m.

Incredibly world-renowned stallion and dam-sire More Than Ready (Southern Halo) has produced 88 stakes winners as a broodmare sire, nearly 230 winners overall in the role, and 15 Group One winners.

Passing in 2022, aged 25, More Than Ready had been Champion Sire in both hemispheres, proven an outstanding sire of sires, and went from strength-to-strength as a broodmare sire.

The filly is from the family of Amarelinha (Savabeel), who Ellis purchased as a yearling at Karaka, and the NZ Oaks (Gr. 1, 2400m) winner became the sixth of eight NZB Filly of the Year winners for Te Akau.

It is also the family of terrific sire and broodmare sire Keeper (Danehill), who is a son of third dam Nuwirah (Pleasant Colony).

“She’s by the first-season sire In The Congo, a magnificent racehorse, very fast, who developed into a good three-year-old and looks to be another very promising sire by Snitzel.

“She’s a quality filly, well built, looks terrific, and has a lot of class and athleticism about her. She’s a beautiful mover.

“We’ve had a lot of luck with the family, already, have bought Amarelinha as a yearling at Karaka, and also Kiwi Raider.

“She’s a standout filly that was hotly contested in the auction ring, and we’re thrilled to have secured her.”

The filly carries a nicely balanced bloodline cross of breed shaping Champion Sire Danehill (Danzig), on the sire line of In The Congo and dam line of Anaween.
