Description

Lot 357 bay filly Proisir – Colerne (Redoute’s Choice) $250,000 (draft: Haunui Farm) - bought by our granddaughter Lucia-Rose!! The filly is by Proisir (Choisir), the only stallion in New Zealand to topple Savabeel (Zabeel) for Champion Sire honours in recent years, when winning the stallion premiership in 2023, and he currently sits second on the General Sires List.

Proisir has risen through the stallion ranks to become one of the best in New Zealand, leaving good quality racehorses, some of which, especially the fillies, have beaten the best in Australasia.

From a fantastic NZ thoroughbred lineage, Proisir, in particular, has shown to be a great producer of fillies and mares, represented by Champion Sprinter/Miler and four-time Group One winner Levante, Champion 3YO and Champion Middle-Distance Horse Legarto, winner of the Australian Guineas (Gr. 1, 1600m) and two additional Group One races, and Prowess, a dual Group One winner and Champion Middle-Distance Horse.

To be fair, he is also a top sire of males, including Group One winners Waitak, Dark Destroyer, and Pier, and a great all-round sire, to say the least.

The dam of the filly, Colerne, recorded two wins from two starts over 1200 metres in Australia, and a daughter of Champion Sire and Champion Broodmare Sire Redoute’s Choice (Danehill), winning the latter title four times.

A young mare, Colerne is the dam of four-time winner Tolpuddle (Pierro), and second dam You Can’t Say That (Fusaichi Pegasus) has produced two multiple stakes winners.

The filly comes from a family that Te Akau has experienced success, having purchased My Lips Are Sealed (Ace High) at Karaka, and the four-time winner has included the Phar Lap Trophy (Gr. 3, 1600m).

The third dam, What Can I Say (Khozaam), impressed winning among eight victories which included the Warwick Farm Stakes (Gr. 2, 1400m). In turn, she became an incredible produced of 10 individual winners, notching 29 wins, including six stakes wins, and over $1.5m in prize money.

The family also includes the speed influence of Babylon Berlin (All Too Hard), who finished second to Te Akau trained Champion Two-Year-Old and now sire Sword of State (Snitzel) in King’s Plate (Gr. 3, 1200m).

“She’s a really good-bodied, strong, yearling filly, has a marvellous temperament, and from a great winning family that we have already had success with,” said David Ellis.

“We bought Melody Belle from the draft of Haunui Farm, and they’ve been breeding and rearing some of best yearlings for decades in New Zealand.

“Proisir is a highly proven sire of quality fillies, this one being out of a Redoute’s Choice mare, which will give her every opportunity to succeed, and she’s just a gorgeous horse.

“She’s the classy sort of type to run as a two-year-old, but really train on to become a classics filly and mare.”

The filly carries a lovely Danehill (Danzig) cross, on the sire lines of both Proisir and Colerne.
