Description

Lot 428 bay filly I Am Invincible – Meuse (Snitzel) $360,000 (draft: Widden Stud)

For the same cost, Te Akau principal David Ellis CNZM purchased Imperatriz, the greatest winner for three-time Australian Champion Sire I Am Invincible (Invincible Spirit).

Te Akau stable star and World Champion Sprinter, Imperatriz was also crowned New Zealand Horse of the Year and Champion Sprinter in Australia. She was bought for $360,000 and owned by Te Akau Invincible Empress Racing Partnership (Mgr: Karyn Fenton-Ellis MNZM).

Retired and sold in 2024 for $6.6 million, becoming the highest priced filly or mare ever sold in the Southern Hemisphere, Imperatriz recorded 10 Group One wins, from 1000m – 1600m, among 19 victories from 27 starts, and nearly NZ$7.6 million in prize money.

Dam Meuse, by four-time Champion Sire Snitzel (Redoute’s Choice), who rose to third in the Australian Broodmare Sires’ List last season, was a stakes winner and Group Three placed, among four wins to 1600 metres, and already the dam of dual winner Charleroi (Dundeel).

Granddam Precious Lorraine, by Champion Sire and Champion Broodmare Sire Encosta de Lago (Fairy King), won three races including the South Australia Fillies Classic (Gr. 3, 2400m), and in turn produced four winners of 10 races.

The filly is a direct descendant from the family of legendary Champion Sire and Champion Broodmare Sire Redoute’s Choice (Danehill), and a family which Te Akau has experienced success with Summer Monsoon (Stratum), bought by Ellis at the corresponding sale in 2016, who included the Stewards Stakes (Gr. 3, 1200m) among nine wins to 1400 metres.

Third dam Monsoon Wedding (Danehill) is out of Shantha’s Choice (Canny Lad), the dam of Redoute’s Choice, along with Group One winners Platinum Scissors (Danehill), Manhattan Rain (Encosta de Lago), sire Echoes Of Heaven (Encosta de Lago), while Shantha’s Choice is a half-sister to Group One winners Hurricane Sky (Star Watch) and Umatilla (Miswaki).

The filly carries a bloodline cross to Canny Lad (Bletchingly), while Meuse has the unique double up of Danehill and Shantha’s Choice, through Redoute’s Choice and Monsoon Wedding. Put simply, she has a blood brother and a blood sister in the fourth line of her pedigree.

“It’s not very often you get to buy a filly from a family like this and we’re thrilled to have her,” Ellis said.

“Her bloodlines are impeccable, the very best Australia has produced in the last 30 years, and this family in particular has produced a lot of Group One winners.

“She’s a very strong bodied filly with a lot of class, beautifully correct and conformed, and she’s been prepared by the very best at Widden Stud.

“Whatever she can achieve on the racetrack will become a real bonus to the residual value she already has because of her breeding.”
