Karaka Yearling Sales 2026
Lot 45 bay filly Super Seth – Pipers Fling (Savabeel) $150,000 (draft: Milan Park)
Te Akau principal David Ellis CNZM bought reigning Champion Two-Year-Old La Dorada, bred on the same Super Seth / Savabeel cross, and one of four individual Group One winners by sensational young sire Super Seth (Dundeel).
Super Seth made a fantastic impact as a three-year-old colt, especially when ‘coming from nowhere’ to beat race favourite Alligator Blood (All Too Hard) in the Caulfield Guineas (Gr. 1, 1600m).
Super Seth is a son of six-time Group One winner Dundeel, by sire of sires High Chaparral (Sadler’s Wells), whose sons include Dundeel, So You Think, Toronado, Contributer, Ace High, Redwood, and Tivaci, all sires of Group One winners.
With his oldest crop now four-year-olds, Super Seth has been Champion First & Second Season Sire, Champion 2YO Sire, and already produced 68 individual winners, including eight stakes’ winners.
Out of Group One winner Irish Fling (Darci Brahma), dam Pipers Fling is a daughter of 10-time Champion Sire Savabeel (Zabeel), who won once and placed twice in six starts, but certainly displayed talent above her station.
The filly is the first foal out of Pipers Fling.
An unbelievable sire son of Champion Sire Zabeel, and Champion Grand-Sire Sir Tristram, Savabeel has produced 154 stakes winners, surpassing 140 by Sir Tristram, and chasing down 166 by Zabeel.
It was inevitable that Savabeel would also shine in the role as a broodmare sire, where he currently sits second to O’Reilly (Last Tycoon), with 17 individual stakes winners in the role, including six Group One.
Grand-dam Irish Fling, by Champion Sire Darci Brahma (Danehill), won the Telegraph Handicap (Gr. 1, 1200m) and Pegasus Stakes (Listed, 1000m) among five wins to 1200 metres, while both third dam Irish Belle (O’Reilly) and fourth dam Society Bay (Zephyr Bay) are stakes performed fillies that produced stakes winners.
Society Bay (Zephyr Bay) won twice as a two-year-old and asserted herself in both New Zealand and Australia.
It is a family whose progeny are renowned for showing an ability to quicken at the business end of their races, which is crucial in the attributes of any top thoroughbred.
“We know the Super Seth / Savabeel mating works, having bought and trained La Dorada, and this filly is from a top breeder at Milan Park, that continues producing really high-class horses,” said David Ellis.
“The dam sires on the page are second to none, including Darci Brahma, which we bought at Karaka. He won five Group One races and became a Champion Sire, and he’s alongside Champion Sires Savabeel and O’Reilly in the pedigree – it’s hard to beat.
“We’ve got a really good record with first foals out of quality mare, this filly foots the bill and she really is a beautiful filly that oozes class.
“It’s such a good family and if the filly can win black type races, then she’ll become very valuable.”
The filly is beautifully bred, with bloodline crosses to legendary Champion Sires Zabeel (Sir Tristram) and Danehill (Danzig).
