After the excitement and success of Out Of The Blue on Karaka Millions Night, the Tangerine Army is back doing what it loves most - finding quality young horses, building great syndicates, and having a whole lot of fun along the way. Being part of the Tangerine Army is about more than just race results. It’s about the social side of racing – owner events, race days, celebrations, behind-the-scenes access, and sharing the highs (and the laughs) with a like-minded group who love the sport. We have fun on and off the track, and we take pride in building syndicates that feel like a team.

Let us introduce you to our latest recruit: Lot 592 black or brown colt Trapeze Artist – Pickup the Pieces (Bel Esprit) $145,000 (draft: Woburn Farm)

Beautifully rich in colour, the colt was a well-balanced and athletic weanling, and since developed into a classy yearling with plenty of quality about him.

The colt is by quadruple Group One winner Trapeze Artist, Champion 3YO Colt in Australia, a son of four-time Champion Sire and incredible sire of sires Snitzel (Redoute’s Choice), with six of his sons already siring Group One winners, including Trapeze Artist, whose son Griff won the Caulfield Guineas (Gr. 1, 1600m).

Trapeze Artist is mentioned in the same breath as leading Snitzel sire sons Shamus Award and Russian Revolution, while Sword of State, a Snitzel colt that David Ellis bought as a yearling, to become a Group One winner and Champion Two-Year-Old, has made such an impact with his first crop two-year-olds that he topped the Karaka Book 1 Sale with a $1.1 million colt.

A young sire, standing at Widden Stud (NSW), Trapeze Artist was Leading Second Season Sire in Australia, and already produced over 130 winners, including nine stakes’ winners.

Dam Pickup the Pieces is by Bel Esprit (Royal Academy), who sired of unbeaten Black Caviar, winner of 25 races including 15 Group One.

Bel Esprit has established himself as an outstanding broodmare sire, including dual Hong Kong Horse of the Year Beauty Generation, exciting young sire Ole Kirk, and 1000 Guineas (Gr. 1, 1600m) winner Costa Viva, who was also bought as a yearling by Ellis.

Pickup the Pieces won three times to 1300 metres in Australia, and thus far produced impressive winner Galpin (Sioux Nation).

The direct descending mares are by great sires Testa Rossa and Snippets, the latter siring Champion Sire Pins, with each renowned for producing top quality sprinters.

“Trapeze Artist is going very well as a young sire, like so many of these sons of Snitzel, and the colt is a beautiful mover, with plenty of natural strength, and developing into a really nice horse,” said David Ellis.

“Woburn Farm do a great job preparing young horses for sale. They’re present very naturally and, of course, we bought Perfect Scenario off them and he became a great horse for his owners, winning 11 races, Group races, and a stable favourite at Te Akau.

“He’s got a great line-up of sprinters in his pedigree and we see him racing as a two-year-old and training on.”

The colt has bloodline crosses in his pedigree to Snippets, on the sire line of Trapeze Artist and dam line of Pickup the Pieces, and also to breed shaping sire Danzig, the sire of Danehill.
